Third-eye pulsations and the vibrational state

31/8/2014

If you have come to his article because you have experienced either of the sensations referred to in the title and you were worried about them, the first thing to know is that they are perfectly natural. The trail blazing OBE researcher Robert Monroe spontaneously began experiencing unusual vibrations when he laid down to rest or sleep. He spent some time worrying about his health, both physical and mental, until he realized that the vibrations simply related to the process of separation from his physical body. If you are in that position, you can stop worrying and start exploring the subtle dimensions of life that these sensations relate to.

I started meditating without any desire to explore multidimensionality. I didn’t even realize life was multidimensional. I just wanted to calm my mind. Yet within a very short period of time I experienced vibrations all over my body while in meditation, and developed a pulsation around my third eye that persisted even when I was just going about my daily business.

Eventually I came to understand that both those sensations relate to our energetic body. This body is comprised of the energy Eastern traditions refer to as Chi / Qui / Ki. It permeates our physical body, and extends just a bit beyond the limits of our skin. It comprises a complex system that includes channels, like the veins in our body, and distribution or circulation centers known as chakras.

Like air this energy is essential to our survival, it is our life force. It has been given a range of English names such as vital energy and etheric energy; in conscientiology it is called bioenergy, the energy of life. Because it is so much subtler than our physical body, we are rarely aware of this part of us. But when we become still and tune into it, or when we take actions to move and develop that body, then we can start to perceive it in a range of ways, including as intense vibrations and pulsations, or subtle tinglings and pinpricks.

When I started to study conscientiology, I learned a technique by which to deliberately induce the vibrational state even when I wasn’t meditating. This technique, called the closed circulation of energy, is essentially an exercise of the mind and involves mentally inducing ever-accelerating movement of the energetic body. You start at the top of your head and move the energy all the way down to your feet before returning back to the top, continuing and accelerating that cycle until reaching the vibrational state (you can find a nice illustration of this here). You can do this while laying in your bed, sitting in a restaurant or standing in a cue.

I have now practiced this technique for years. Throughout that period my third eye kept pulsating most of time, regardless as to whether I was doing the closed circulation regularly or not. I could be sitting at my desk working, playing in the park with my kids or practicing a meditation, the pulsation of energy around my third eye remained an almost constant companion. Initially I thought it was something really significant, an opening of clairvoyance for example and that any time soon I would become permanently attuned to non-physical dimensions. But a decade and a half later it appears that these pulsations have nothing to do with clairvoyance, and my abilities in that regard remain as haphazard as they ever were.

However, I have recently begun to gain a new appreciation of the role of the third eye chakra in our wider energetic system. A meditation technique taught by the Clairvision School works very deliberately with the third-eye chakra, using it as a focus point in exploring our inner world of consciousness. In the course of my still fledgling studies of the Clairvision School’s approach, I decided to combine the focus on the third-eye with the deliberate induction of the vibrational state. Instead of moving energy up and down through my energetic system in the broad sweep of the closed circulation of energies, I have started focusing my full awareness on the pulsations of my third-eye chakra and then extending that pulsation throughout my energetic body. It appears to be a very effective way of inducing the vibrational state. Before long I start to perceive the pulsation in the crown chakra at the top of my head, and the planto-chakras at the centers of my feet and then my entire energetic system enters a subtle but tangible vibrational state. The third-eye chakra has become a switch with which to crank up the volume of the whole energetic body.

And if you are wondering why you may want to do that, there are many reasons. If you are an energetically sensitive person, the vibrational state is an excellent technique to balance yourself when you have to deal with dense or challenging environments. It is a technique that helps you reclaim your energetic space and thereby also your mental and emotional space.
If you are pursuing out-of-body travels, inducing the vibrational state while lying down in a relaxed position can cause the separation of your subtle psychosoma (astral body) from the physical body. And if you are interested in working more closely with non-physical helpers, regular vibrational states will help you develop an energetic micro-climate in which helpers can provide greater assistance to both physical and non-physical people in need who cross your path.

So if you are already experiencing the subtle sensations of your energetic body I encourage you to explore and develop them. And if all of this seems very abstract to you because you don’t think you have ever experienced any of the things I am talking about, but you are still reading this, I encourage you to try working with your energy and experience it for yourself.

I did a guided chakra meditation for the first time and when i started to cleanse my third eye chakra i had vibrations run like electricity through my body and my energy felt as though it was lifting or becoming lighter. Is this the beginning stages of astral projrction?

Hi Nicole,
When you perceived the vibrations like electricity you were connecting with the sensations of your energy body. The lightness you started to feel may have been your awareness shifting to your psychosoma (astral body), although even your energy body feels light compared to your physical so just being aware of that can give is this sense of lightness. I don't know whether you were beginning to project at this time but you are definitely on the right track if you start getting these vibrations. Good luck!

Hi,
Our family recently experienced a traumatic event and I went to Nosara, Costa Rica to recover. During a massage with a body worker - the area around my belly literally started to vibrate and my hands and feet felt like there was an electric current running through them. I've always been very sensitive but never had this experience before. Can you tell me what was happening?
Thanks,
Kevyn Allard

Hi Kevyn,
given the context I would guess you experienced some kind of energetic release. We often store emotional energy around the belly relating to fear, anger or hurt. It may have been triggered by the energies of the person giving you the massage, or perhaps you were just allowing yourself to relax to a point where the energy could be released. If you connect with any feelings that accompanied the experience or how you felt afterwards you may understand better what it might have been related to for you.
Did you speak with the massage therapist at the time? If not and if it is still possible it might be good to share your experience. Perhaps he or she was doing energy work while giving you the massage.
I suppose the main thing I can say is that such energetic experiences are perfectly normal in that many people have them and that most likely this was a positive energetic release.
Best wishes

Kim,
Many thanks for taking the time to reply. All that makes sense. I did also discuss it with the massage therapist and she thought perhaps I was going through some kind of "transformation" and suggested I keep the channels open while resting in Nosara. It's too bad I'm still still there because it was a magical place!
Thanks again,
Kevyn

Hi,
I have felt cooling sensation on top of my head, hands and pressure on my third eye many times. Earlier I used to ignore that I even thought that it could be some neurological problem. But from last two days I am having very strong sensation almost whole day. Yesterday night I felt my third eye pulsating. And those vibration become so strong that I find it difficult to sleep. I know that it's something very different and I want to explore it and use it. I don't want to ignore it this time. How should I start?

Hi Khushbu,
Thanks for commenting on my post. I am glad to hear you are now at peace with these energetic sensations and want to explore them further. There are a number of things you could do: I would suggest you look at this video about moving energies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sxwm6sQ2P_w) and practice it consistently every day for a few weeks. Whenever you have the opportunity and definitely at night when you lie down you could also focus all your awareness on the pulsations in your third eye. Simply bringing your awareness there will increase and expand the experience and may open up other experiences. Relax into it and approach the experience with curiosity and openness for what it may reveal.
If the sensations become too much try moving the energy from the third eye to other parts of your body. Remember that your third-eye is only one energetic center in your energetic body and it is good to try and harmonize and integrate the flow of energy across the whole system.
Ideally find a group that works with energy in your area and do some actual group sessions as that can often move things along quicker then if we are by ourselves.
Best wishes

I'm glad I'm not the only one who experiences these same sensations. Are there other exercises you can recommend?

Hi Ange,

these sensation are actually a lot more common than we think. We just don't tend to talk about them. As far as other exercises goes, any exercises that involve bringing awareness to the sensations and stimulating your energetic body can be helpful. As well as the kind of energy work discussed here this can include breathing practices and movement exercises like Qi Gong or Tai Chi. Your aim will determine the best practices for you.

Hi,
I have been meditating for awhile and I can easily reach this vibrational state but my intentions are to astral project. How do I get from vibrations to projecting. I have mentally concentrated on it and felt myself floating but I can never leave my body. How do I get out?

Hi,
For most of us leaving the physical body with awareness is a huge challenge. Most of us will lose consciousness at some point during the exit and then come to again when away from the body. This is due both to our mental conditioning and to the pull of our energetic body. If you can feel yourself floating you are already at least partially out, but now you want to move further away from the physical body. It is really a matter of persistent intention and will - focusing on a target some distance from the body, including in a completely different dimension and maintaining that focus with all your heart. You may also have to overcome any fears you may hold, e.g. I have found that when I no longer feel myself breathing because my awareness has shifted to my non-physical body, I might snap back because I get worried and want to check that my body is still breathing. Your body will be fine. Trust the process.

Hello how are you?
I practice meditation for almost ten year already and these times something strange is happening while I meditate, it's not always but when it happens I pay full attention because is sooo strange that feeling...
I feel like my being, my "self" is very small inside an enormous body and at the same time I don't feel that its the same place I'm meditating...
I know that words is so hard to express this feeling, but its like Im so small inside a colossal body...
I don't know if you will understand but do you know anything about this? It is the beginning of astral travel or something?

Thank you very much!

Hey Sayuri,

Thanks for your comment. When we meditate our consciousness can connect to many different subtle aspects of ourselves - our energetic body, our emotional body (psychosoma) or our mental body - and from this all kind of "unusual" sensations can arise. Yes it can be a precursor to leaving the body consciously. You could set that as your intention and see what happens.

When I meditate, I feel pulsation in my third eye. Now when I lay my hands on a part of my body I feel pulsation in my third eye and energy going through my hands and warm energy going to the part of the body I touch, and I'm not attuned to reiki. I pray alot and meditate and I've been praying for healing. Could it be a gift from the Divine or could it be my subtle body going through changes?

Hi Tangie, thank you for your comment. Feeling pulsations in your third eye, and energy going through your hands and to your body where you touch it is very natural. When you pray a lot and meditate you naturally become more sensitive to those subtle energies and the sensations they generate. With time you may experience other things, like perceiving non-physical people who are around you as you meditate. And as you practice more your subtle body does change, because the energy flows more freely and strongly as you clear old emotional or mental blocks and deepen your connection with the Divine / Spirit / Ultimate Being.

Hey Kim,
I am fairly new to the meditation thing, I started for 2 reasons. The first being an overactive imagination and also suffering from anxiety however the second reason was because of my partner. I am a backpacker and I met my partner around 11 months ago, whenever our bodies seem to touch we both experience the vibration very intensley... like our minds are going to blow up. This vibration only occurs where the third eye is located (we know this because after the first couple of times we became very interested). Now when I meditate I get the same feeling in the same place. It feels like im no longer attachted to my body... and when I practice with my partner it feels like we are one person.

The reason for this comment is because I want to understand further how I can develop this feeling, what this feeling really is and also why has it only come into full effect now I am with my partner.
I would also like to mention that I had experienced the feeling before I left my home however, it was only very slighly and was over very quickly. Now I can do it for hours.

Thanks, I hope someone can shed some light.

Hi Sarah, I was just browsing around and was drawn to your comment. I think you've found your twin flame! That is truly amazing, and I wish you many, many blessings. Meditation has been life changing for me as well, and I've gone through some different iterations of it. I feel pulsing in my third eye throughout my day sometimes, and especially when meditating, or around metaphysical people or objects (like crystals).
Perhaps the use of crystals can help you. I find meditating with black kyanite truly transcends me into an out of body experience almost immediately. I'm not one with a very quiet mind, so I can only imagine what it will do for you.

Hi Sarah,
thanks for your comment and sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to you. Sounds like an intense and beautiful experience you two are having. It also sounds like for some reason you are stimulating or have awoken this more deeply in each other. I expect this is something that you guys worked on and planned before coming into this physical dimension, and having this experience now serves as a kind of reminder for you. A prompt to stop and connect with your purpose here in this life.
The feeling of detachment you have from your body and also of merging with your partner suggests that your consciousness is shifting from the physical to the more subtle bodies at that time. Because they are so subtle it often seems like there is no body, and we are also able to attune directly with other people or even plants and animals, making us feel like we are one. If you keep meditating this experience should deepen. You could also experiment with the energy practice I talk about in the post.

That was a very interesting read and what a joy to see so many people sharing their experiences. I've felt energy flow/ tingling feelings in the palms of my hands for years (it went away for some years interim when I shied away from my spiritual side), and never knew what it was. Because I was brought up in the catholic way, people were telling me it was "invisible stigmata", which I now know it is not. I've also, since beginning a journey into meditation and spiritual mindfulness, begun feeling energy pulsing in my third eye, sometimes my crown too, and even at the bottom of my feet (on days I feel more grounded).
I was especially drawn to what you said about non-physical helpers. I'd love to hear more about what you mean by that. Over time, I feel closer and closer to my non-physical helpers, and absolutely wish to only deepen my connection with them.
I'm an empath, and have healing abilities which I am too in-need of myself to use, but will accidentally sponge up peoples bad, sad, negative energies often (though I'm better at locking them out now). One powerful experience I had was when I laid hands on someone who had been expressing not feeling very well/ having sleep difficulties. Now and then, I'm able to move energy (though requiring a lot of energy on my part), but when I laid hands on him, I felt immediately afraid at an almost reptilian nothingness I felt on the other end. Amazingly, they revealed themselves to be a sociopath in an out-of-character ramble- interested only in using me, and I haven't seen them since.

Hey Shoshana, thank you for sharing your experience here. I really appreciated hearing how you had to become clear on distinguishing what was really happening to you from the cultural beliefs that you grew up in, because that is a struggle so many of us go through. What I mean by non-physical helpers is consciousnesses ("spirits") who currently do not have a physical body and who are committed to assistance, both to us in this physical dimension and to unwell extraphysical consciousnesses who are still attached to this dimension or are stuck in pathological extraphysical dimensions that are closely linked to the physical dimension. There are different kinds of helpers. Some are closely linked to an individual and assist them over their life time. Others provide support around particular activities. For example, there are often dedicated teams of helpers that support us during different evolutionary workshops or practices. Or as you start to do a certain kind of assistance activity, like your hands on healing, a new extraphysical helper may team up with you. Often we are not very aware of this cooperation, but as we tune in we can connect with the helpers, which I usually find very reassuring and inspiring.

Hi, I am new to the wiccan thing, but, my third eye has been open since i was born. Only recently though, have i been having these pulsations around it. I have been also having ruins appear on my arms and i dont understand what is going on. My friend has been, sort of, my teacher with this, and he doesnt know what they mean either. Yesterday, my third eye just, burning, i guess, not really pulsating, and it made me really nauseated. Does this usually happen?

If you know anything about any of this, your help would be much appreciated.

Hi Brandon, I don't know a lot about Wicca, but what you describe reminds me of my intense early period of getting into different spiritual movements and having very powerful and sometimes frightening experiences. I recall various times having a burning third eye, to the point that it was really uncomfortable and yes even nauseating. The way I understand it now is that some of us seem to go through a period of activating and clearing out our energetic body and connecting or being influenced by our own karmic past which surfaces in intense experiences ... in my case that was with Buddhist and shamanic visions, dreams and multi-sensory memories, and in yours it may be the Wiccan runes. I'd say, be gentle with yourself and take time to just be with the energy sensations and anything else that comes up. I found that even when the sensations were unpleasant I usually had the sense that it was part of a positive process. If that's the case for you I'd trust that sense and go with it. If something about it does not feel right, I'd suggest listening to that also and changing your practices or influences.

Hi Kim,
I've been recently getting a pulsating for the last couple of months around my third eye area. I don't know why it is happening. I've been praciticing my own meditation for over a year but nothing specifically to do with the 3rd eye. I'm quite a conscious individual but haven't had any intense mystical experiences. I've done quite a few plant medicines with no full on visions only mind's eye. I'm a kinasthetic person as opposed to auditory and visualization. Upon my google search today I came across this which had a synchronicity of where you learnt your technique from the clairvision school. I came across the book of how to open your third eye ages ago and have never read it as yet due to reading all these other books I read. I study the mind quite alot with hypnosis and just general awareness.

I just got back from a 2 week holiday and thought i'd look up to see if I can find any answers in relation to the pulsing because it hasn't happened before..It feels like more coming from the surface area of where my 3rd eye would be (inline with my eyebrows).
I used to lucid dream a fair bit when I was practicing it but have had trouble to get back into that state as much as I used too. Had a couple of OBE's back then too and Sleep paralysis with high vibrational states. If you can forward me any information to help me out in moving further I would greatly appreciate..

Much Love and Light

Chris

Hey Chris, thanks for your comment. As far as I can tell a regular awareness of the pulsating around the third-eye chakra basically suggests that your energetic body is active. Energies are flowing as they should. I don't know why so many of us perceive that particular chakra so strongly. I have gone through periods where other chakras were similarly noticeable (especially the heart and spleen chakras at different times), but the sensations around the third-eye has been a constant companion for many years now. To me it serves as a reminder of my energetic body, especially when I am in stressful situations where I could forget about that side of life. And like I say in the article, it serves as a focus to increase the vibrations of the whole energetic body. In terms of moving further that's where I would put my focus - check out the link to the vibrational state exercise that I posted in the article and practice that technique - and also try getting to the vibrational state by focusing on your third eye as I discuss in the article. I'd encourage you to do it regularly throughout your day for a few weeks and see what happens. Another good use of the third-eye chakra is to make it your focus of awareness as you lie down to go to sleep. In my experience that can help induce OBEs. Good luck and feel free to let us know how you go!

Hey Kim,
Thanks for your response, have been meaning to get back to you for a while now but just haven't had a chance. Since i've written to you the pulsating has come to a stop and i'm trying to figure out why, there are times in meditation where I can slightly feel it but nothing like I have before. Were you saying to focus on my third eye regularly throughout the day for a few weeks or to try the Vibrational state exercise that you posted in the article. How long do you feel that I should focus on that vibrational exercise.
Thanks for your amazing communication, would love to continue communicating with you via email/messenger in future if its no trouble :)

Hi Chris,
That’s really curious that the third eye pulsations have become less pronounced since you started exploring them more. I expect it will be temporary. I certainly go through periods where they are less noticeable and others where they border on unpleasantly strong.
What I meant in my previous response is that I would focus on working with the whole energetic body, and treat the third-eye sensations as a kind of prompt or reminder. To do that I would work with the vibrational state exercise during the day - ideally 10-20 times a day. Just for 2-3 minutes. In the beginning you may need to stop what you’re doing and put all your attention inwards, but with practice you can keep writing that email or even chatting with someone while also focusing on moving your energy. It’s a practice that can have dramatically positive effects on your energetic and overall well being.
Me and a friend have actually just started a virtual group doing what we call a vibrational state marathon where the aim is to do the practice 20 times a day for a week. Being part of a group can be a great support when getting going with this kind of thing. If you’d be interested to take part in the next one send me an email or connect via Facebook.

Cheers

Hello,
I was wondering if you can help me with something. I recently had a series of spiritual and ADC experiences after my guy transitioned. I have been meditating for years and last month I felt a knock or a blow to the middle of my forehead. I did not feel pain, but it was evident. I was not meditating at the time I was helping my mother with a household task. Do you have any theories on this? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hey Kimlan, can you say a bit more about the knock or blow you felt to your forehead? The two possibilities that come to mind are a. It was caused by your own energetic processes, which are not dependent on us meditating or doing anything particular, or b. It was a non-physical person trying to get your attention. I have a sense that you already have a pretty good idea which of the two it was.

Hello, I have searched everywhere for answers and I think I have finally found it. So thank you so much for that. In my case ever since I have been trying to connect more spiritually. Every time I close my eyes and focus, it could even take 2 seconds. My entire body is overwhelmed with energy. Kind of like the feeling of being watched, but warm and safe. It's hard to explain. Anyways, I am 17 years old and am wondering how far can I go with this? and what are some steps that I should take to try and "achieve" something out of it. I would like to speak to my guides, astral project, and mainly find out who I am. Not my physical self and what my ego has made me, but my actual spiritual self who chose this body. If that makes any sense.

- Cheers, and thanks for reading :)

Hi Zack, that makes a lot of sense. Asking ourselves the question “Who am I?” is actually a very serious practice in Hinduism and Buddhism. And if you keep going with that - like really mediate on it - it’s a powerful tool to help you connect with your consciousness beyond all the labels and constructs of our current life.
If you want to practice getting out of your body and connect with guides/helpers, working with your energies is a key practice. A strong energetic body means you are in a better position to work closely with the helpers and energy exercises will also help you get out of your body. It’s really exiting that you are getting into this aspect of life at your age. Most of us only get there later on.

Hello everyone, thanks a lot for the questions and answers it helped me a lot !
I have one other question tho, I've noticed that every time I feel needing something which it can be physical or emotional and I rise the vibrational state by focusing especially on my spine, brings an immediate positive effect, like I get the answer I need or I get the food from.someone when hungry simply everything it's getting easier and smooth it's like a "super power" :D
Can you explain me this? Can't be every time a coincidence..
Is anyone else experienced this?

Hi Alex,

I do know that when we start working with our energy we can more easily get into the flow of life, and things sometimes just seem to work out, because we are not being blocked by the kind of energetic barriers that often effect us in life. However I can't explain exactly what is happening to you, but it sounds excellent!

Hey,
I have gone through periods with exactly those same sensations. Such intensity around the third eye it felt my head would split and lots of energy around the brain. It is natural and it will become less intense - or perhaps you will just become more comfortable with the sensations. You don't need to meditate continuously, but I would recommend taking some time every day - even just 5-10 minutes to focus on your energy and centre yourself. What you can achieve is a more centred, conscious, heart-based life.

Hi Sumit,

the experiences you describe are all more common than we often realise. I am not exactly sure what you are feeling between your eye-brows, but I am guessing the sensation is caused by the energy of the chakra located there. The sensations caused by that chakra can vary and range from light tingling sensation that seem to be just at the level of our skin to intense almost drill-like sensations going all the way to centre of our head (the pineal gland).
Many of us have dreams about the future or precognitions. In my experience this happens mainly with small trivial events, but I know some people also see important events that later happen. All I can say about that is that it suggests that our consciousness is not bound by time in a lineal way.
Your sleep experiences suggest that you may be consciously experiencing events outside of the physical body. It is a big challenge for us to bring such experiences back to physical memory, and often all we are left with is the distinct impression that a lot happened, but we do not know the details. I recommend you start writing down whatever you can as soon as you wake up. Even if you only remember one short scene, write that down. You will probably find that as you do so, more memories will arise and you are training your mind to value the experiences.

Good luck and thanks for you comment.

Hi Kaitlynn, the feelings we have when we start tuning into the energetic dimension can vary a lot from person to person and from time to time. Feeling your head - or even your whole body - as huge is certainly a common experience. There are lots of "weird" feelings to be had, and the more you pursue them the less weird they will be as you become more familiar with that subtle dimension of life.

Hello I started meditating for a couple weeks now I started Because I wanted to ask my Guides and Angles there names how many do I have & to show me my past lives also to communicate with any loved ones who are around me. I then stated to feel like I was floating some times and then I would get vivid dreams that I wrote down just in case they are past lives of mine. No signs yet of names or how many I have around me. Then I just recently went on YouTube to some music to open my 3rd eye so I can fully see answers to everything I want to know I started to feel like I was falling asleep and both hands were feeling tingling maybe vibrating I can see white lights shooting like stars and black circles moving fast and then my phone went dead after that I had a slight headache. Am I doing the right practices to open up and see my Guides. I always have my candle lit and my paper and pen writing what I want to know. Any more suggestions I just started a About 2 months. Thank you

Hi Melanie

your desire to connect with your guides, to see your past lives and to communicate with loved ones around you are all things that can be fulfilled through practices of meditation and energy work. How long it takes depends on a lot of factors. Some people practice for years before connecting with past lives and others have experiences about them arise spontaneously. I don't know the names of any of my guides but I can feel them and experience their support and that is the main thing for me. Meditation can help you as can doing the kind of energy work talked about in this blog post. The tingling sensations you describe suggest you are beginning to become conscious of your energetic body and possibly starting to consciously separate from the physical body. Having pen and paper handy is definitely a good idea. I would suggest research about the out-of-body experience as that is the ideal state to connect with non-physical people and also our past lives. Ideally find a group to work with that practices OBE techniques as having energies of others can help you in your own development. Best wishes for your search for understanding and answers.

Hi Kim! Thank you for all the info. Last night I had a very vivid dream and in the dream I got angry and at the same time I spoke, my body pushed a very powerful energy through my third eye, like if I had powers and then my Third eye started vibrating so strongly in repeated similar pattern and I started watching multiple colors like strong shots of lights mostly through my left eye, that left me with no energy, after that I woke up so impressed of what I experienced in my third eye area and started to google it. But I don’t find the relation between the dream and the third eye vibration, my dream didn’t seem high, more mundane than elevated. I really appreciate any guide. Thank you.

Hi Stephania, that sounds like a very impactful dream. Intense psychic experiences can arise in the most "mundane" moments as they are really just part of life. I don't know the context of the dream, but it sounds like it had quite an emotional charge that ultimately connected you with your own inner energy centre. I think if this experience guides you to exploring and connecting with your third eye more intimately it may have served its purpose. I definitely encourage you to spend some time doing meditations or energy exercises focused on the third eye and see if you can deepen you experience of your whole energy system that way.
Best energies

Hi Kim,

I have a question. I did a 10 day Vinpassana retreat a year ago. During the experience I had what seemed to be a DMT trip. Lots of colors and lost in time. I developed tinnitus a day before, which has never gone away. Recently, I have had heavy vibrations in my hands and third eye at night. Generally the same time between 2am-3am. Followed by vivid dreams that are usually I would say, nightmares. Snakes, holes in floors, a lot of dark places. There isn’t any light. Now I have developed headaches in the frontal region.
Do you have any idea of what is going on? Am I cleansing, did I touch a dark side? It really is becoming concerning. When these things happen I turn my palms down and cover my third eye and it’s subsides. Thank you for the great post.

Hi Dennis
I have not done that retreat but I know they are very intense and it's not surprising that you would have a trip like experience as a result. It definitely sounds like you have opened up something through the process - actually reminds me quite a bit of my initial phase when I first started meditation. There were lots of nightmarish experiences as a connected with old karmic layers and lots of energy phenomena that seemed to be out of my control. Throughout that period I spent a lot of time in meditation and even though I was freaked out a lot I also trusted at a deep level that I was going through a positive process.
The regular experiences at night and the kind of vibrations you describe in your hands and third eye suggests that you are leaving your body, possibly under assistance by non-physical consciousnesses.
Do you currently have a meditation or energy work practice? If not that may increase phenomena, but it should also help balance things out over time and be a space in which you can more easily access intuitions about what's happening.
In terms of your physical sensations of tinnitus and the headaches. If you are concerned I'd recommend you consult a doctor just for reassurance.I do know that my third eye activity during the early period was painful and that I have often had odd pressure changes and sometimes ringing in my ears as a result of energy shifts - nothing as persistent as you describe but given it all started with meditation I think your physical sensations are most likely caused by changes in your energy system. I would encourage you to have a look at my book as I think the range of experiences I describe there could help you understand what's happening for you or at least put your mind at ease. All the best and feel free to check back in any time.

Hi Kim,
I came across this post because I was researching a strange experience that happened to me. I wonder if you might have some insight. Last fall, I went thru a period of intense anxiety, and I began experimenting with yoga and meditation to try and alleviate it. One night as I was sleeping, I felt an intense electric shock to my forehead. It immediately woke me up, and it felt like lightning had struck the room I was in. I could still feel the electricity in the air of the room. It seemed like the current ran thru other nearby electrical devices, like a lamp on a nightstand, so I wondered if I had somehow been shocked by some appliance, but now I think it's something more metaphysical. It's happened to me about 4 or 5 other times since. Each time, I am asleep, then immediately awake to an electric shock right in my forehead. The most recent time it happened, it was also accompanied by a vision. I hadn't felt the shock in at least 5 months, and then it happened, again while sleeping. But this time, I saw a symbol composed of white light against a black circle. There was a silhouette of white light around the black circle. It was a highly complex and intricate symbol, and its like nothing I've encountered while searching google images for symbols like chakras or oms or similar symbols. It's more than just a single character, it almost looks like several characters built in one. I can see this symbol vividly in my mind, but I have absolutely no idea what it means or what I should do next. Have you ever heard of this happening to anyone? Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you for writing this post, and for taking the time to respond to so many comments, it must take a lot of time and energy. Thank you for your generosity.

Hi Sam, thanks for sharing your experience. I have not heard of exactly what you describe, but it sounds related to something that has happened to me quite a few times. When I fall asleep I will often put my attention in the area of the pineal gland / third eye and on a number of occasion I have been jolted back to physical awareness by a bright light, as if someone had turned the light on in the room but “inside” my head and the sense of an electric charge at the third eye. I have not had visions like you describe though and I wasn’t fully asleep at the time. But I suspect it is the same kind of extraphysical energy impacting on us.
Although we are dealing with universal forces they seem to manifest in very individualised ways. So I would encourage you to definitely draw the symbols for future reference and try to get as much info about your time around the sleep as you can. It would be good to know what you were dreaming before each event, or if you were consciously out of body. I don’t know what it means, but I’d encourage you to find out as much as you can about it and eventually you may discover what it means for you.
And if anybody else reading this has experienced something similar that would be great to hear about.
Cheers
Kim
